farmersNirmal: Demanding the immediate release of water to standing crops from the Swarna Project, farmers of Bhorigam village staged a rasta roko near the RDO office in Nirmal town of Adilabad district on Saturday. Farmers said that even though the Swarna project had sufficient level of water, the irrigation authorities were showing reluctance in releasing water to the agricultural fields. They said that in Bhorigam village, the crops were cultivated in over 700 acres completely depending on the Swarna project. However, with the officials delaying in the release of water to the canals, their standing crops were getting damaged, they said. "Despite the representations made by us to the concerned authorities several times, nothing has been done so far and officials are showing reluctance in releasing water to the irrigation canals," a farmer alleged. Scores of leaders from TRS, TDP and BJP also took part in the rasta roko and extended their support to the agitating farmers. The political parties also demanded the district administration to release water to agricultural fields immediately.
