When news surfaced that Rajinikanth would be working with filmmaker AR Murugadoss for Darbar, expectations just skyrocketed as fans thought the collaboration would work magic at the box office and rake in massive moolah.

The duo delivered Darbar amid huge expectations from the audience. Darbar was bankrolled by Subaskaran Allirajah on a huge budget of Rs 200 crore. So the scale of the movie was huge so were the expectations. Rajini promised to woo the audience in the role of a cop and Thalaiva fans couldn't wait to watch him in a Khakhee on the big screen.

Sure enough Darbar released and run housefull in the first few days after its release. We hear the film brought in some impressive figures at the box office, thanks to US premieres as well as advanced booking of tickets. Rajini too rocked the role of Mumbai commissioner Aditya Arunachalam taking on the mafia don

Darbar was released simultaneously in Tamil, Hindi and Telugu and attracted decent crowds across India. However, the latest we hear is that the film didn't bring in profits to the makers as expected. If a recent report doing the rounds is anything to go by, then Darbar was a box office dud in the sense that the makers didbn't benefit as much as they expected.

Now, let's have a look at the box office figures across the world.

Tamil Nadu Rs 50 crores

Kerala Rs 5 crore

Karnataka Rs 7 crore

AP and Telangana states Rs 15 crore

Rest Rs 5 crore

Overseas Rs 33 crore

So if one were to add up these figures, then it would be Rs 192 crore in total which is way behind the money spent on the movie itself.

Darbar features Nivetha Thomas, Nayanthara, Suniel Shetty, Yogi Babu in key roles besides Rajinikanth. Anirudh Ravichander has scored the music in the film.
