Sri Rama Navami was celebrated with gaiety and religious fervour in the district on Friday. The celestial wedding of Lord Rama and Goddess Sita was performed on a grand scale at Sri Rama temples to mark the occasion. Braving the scorching summer, thousands of devotees witnessed the divine wedding. A colourful Shobha Yatra was taken out in the city to mark Sri Rama Navami.

Sri Mahanandiswara Swamy temple at Mahanandi also attracts a large number of Kannadigas for Ugadi every year. They also consider Goddess Kameswari as their sister and Lord Mahanandiswara as brother-in-law and offer gifts to the divine couple. Chowdeshwari temple at Nandavaram in Banaganapalli mandal is also a major shrine which gets a huge number of Kannadigas for Ugadi every year.

Telugu New Year- Ugadi is celebrated quite differently by the farmers and washermen along with the animals close to their hearts in Kurnool district. This celebration is organised inside the Kallur Chowdeswari Mata Temple compound in the town’s centre with bulls and donkeys pulling the decorated bullock-carts. going round the temple ten times in slush that is spread out for the occasion.
