A poisonous spider belonging to Poecilotheria regalis popularly known as tarantula is active in Nallamala forest region and its population is on the rise posing a great threat to the lives of the armed policemen combing the forest area for Maoists.Eight years ago, a Greyhounds policeman died of spider bite.

Over 1.2 lakh have been trekking through the 55-km-long arduous forest route to reach the abode of Lord Mallikarjuna–Srigiri in Srisailam for the holy festival of Sivaratri, which is just two days away. The project is one of the key schemes being taken up by the Central government. The Centre had prepared the project and sent it to the unified State government in 2014, with the aim of increasing the tiger population.
