The Commissioner of Police of Rachakonda unit Mahesh M Bhagwat started a school at Ravirala village of Adibatla for the children of brick kiln workers. This is the second school started by the commissioner in one month, which shows the efforts he is taking to free the children of brick kiln workers from the shackles of child labor.

Mahesh M Bhagwat, Commissioner of Police, Rachakonda, inaugurated a government school at Chotuppal for local poor children. Last year, a police team of Rachakonda had rescued about 800 children working as child labour at different places, most of them from brick kilns. Most of the people who work at these kilns are natives of Orissa.

Two years after governments set a 2025 target to end child labour, delegates from 100 nations at a recent conference in Buenos Aires were told that they will miss the deadline. The implication is also that realising the objective could take well over 20 years after the expiry of the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
