Kesineni all Smiles with B FormIt was a virtual ‘padmavyuh’ for travel tycoon Kesineni Srinivas (Nani) to get the TDP ticket to contest for the high profile Vijayawada Lok Sabha constituency. Having gone through a year-long laborious job of keeping the party vibrant in the constituency as prospective candidate for this hot seat, Kesineni had to fight a hair-splitting battle for more than 48 hours to get his seat confirmed by the party leadership. He had waged a tough war within the party against the top corporate bosses and prevailed upon the party chief, N Chandrababu Naidu, to stand firm on his promise made a year ago.

Kesineni had tough competition for the seat from the PVP Group chief, Potluri Vara Prasad, NRI Komati Jayaram and KL University chairman Koneru Satyanarayana. He was able to beat both Komati and Koneru, but it became tough for him to match the lobbying of PVP. The sources close to the TDP said that PVP had made actor Pawan Kalyan to insist on his candidature for Vijayawada. It is said that Pawan Kalyan had insisted on PVP’s candidature if he had to campaign for the TDP in Seemandhra and share the dais with Chandrababu Naidu. Sources further said that he had lobbied with NDA’s Prime Ministerial candidate Narendra Modi to request Chandrababu Naidu in favour of his candidature, which made the task of Chandrababu Naidu tough.

It was at this stage that Kesineni burst out levelling several corruption charges against PVP that would damage the party’s image. These open remarks have paid him the dividends but his tension and waiting continued for 24 hours more till the party chief greeted him with the ‘B Form’, ending the high voltage suspension. At one stage, several of the party senior leaders from the district had to jump into action to lobby for Kesineni and oppose PVP. The jubilant Kesineni is scheduled to file his nomination on Wednesday with a huge rally from his office and begin his second phase of the battle with his rivals, both within the party and outside.
