Revolutionary Poet Varavara Rao Calls for Boycott of ElectionsHyderabad: Student organisations DSU, ASU, TVV, TSA, UDF and DABMSA organised a commemorating meeting on Sunday at ICSSR hall, Osmania University, Hyderabad, remembering the Adivaasi martyrs who were killed in police firing before 33 years at Indravelli.

Varavara rao, (revolutionary poet), Prof. Surepalli Sujatha (Shatavaahana University), Mypathi Arun (Adivaasi Writers Association), Koteshwar J(Praja Kala Mandali) have attended as speakers for the meeting conducted it inside the university. Varavara Rao said that mere elections could not be termed as democracy. Democracy involves people’s involvement at every level of decision-making and ruling. The self proclaimed largest democracy is being run by corporate like Ambani and Adaani.

“The present context where in the Adivasis were effected by every other so called development means Indravelli has showed us a way of struggle for the people’s rights on the ‘jal’, ‘jungle’ and ‘jameen’,” he said.

He gave a call to boycott elections as the elections were just a name sake phenomenon, choosing the best exploiter and the middlemen for corporate. He said both American imperialism and Hinduism were twin enemies to fight against for the people of this country.

Prof Surepalli Sujatha said that the Adivasis were the worst affected in the present model of development. In the name of mining, open castes, wild life sanctuaries and many other so called development projects Adivasis were displaced and their livelyhood was at stake.

Mypathi Arun spoke about the infiltration of Hindutva culture into the Adivasi culture. Adivasi whose lifestyle is known for the community-based cooperative life has been infiltrated by corporate and Hindutva forces. He urged the people to protect the Adivasi culture. Koteshwar J urged to fight against the onslaught on both Adivasis and Muslims.

He opined that Adivasis and Muslims were portrayed as the other as they are standing on the rich mineral resources and protecting them without letting the American imperialism loot.
