As more and more celebrities all over the world are taking over to maintain an all fruit diet in the obsession to lose weight, health experts claim that this leads to some deadly ramifications. While fruits are rich in fibre, vitamins and minerals, researchers state that consuming only fruit and no other diet increases the level of insulin the body, resulting in unforeseen complications.

Although fruit come packed with nutrients and are excellent sources of energy, the people who survive solely on them are subjected to increased level of fructose that gets accumulated in the blood, making way for insulin level to shoot up.

The logic explained by the experts is simple to decipher – fruit are loaded with antioxidants, vitamins and minerals. The increased fructose due to excessive consumption of fruit metabolises to fat in the liver; something that further leads to negative endocrine effects, also adding to the slowdown of metabolism in the body.
The excessive intake typically damages the pancreas – an organ that produces optimal amounts of insulin in a healthy body. The pancreas constitutes two types of glands –endocrine and exocrine. Endocrine gland has a major role to play as it produces insulin hormone which is accountable for regulating blood sugar levels. If the insulin is made in excess, this result in abnormal blood sugar level, as large amounts of fructose makes the gland work more than normal.
Doctors suggest that individuals who consume fruit and vegetables exclusively should consult a nutrition expert to determine as to how much is acceptable level when it comes to a daily intake. Fructose levels are also high in veggies, something that most people are unaware about.
While this is the flipside of being a ‘fruitarian’, it becomes vital to include good amount of fruit and vegetable in everyday diet along with other foods. There should be an equally good intake of foods rich in protein and carbs to enhance the functioning of the body.
Consuming only fruit not only damages the pancreas, it also leads to malnutrition. A simple fact that individuals on the all fruit diet do not get other sources of protein and iron makes them weak, anaemic and anorexic.
