India’s financial capital Mumbai gets a major infrastructure boost with the country's first double-decker flyover. The Santacruz-Chembur Link Road (SCLR) and the Amar Mahal Junction flyover are expected to decongest the Eastern and Western Express Highways in Mumbai.

The travel time from Santacruz to Chembur will take just 20 minutes on the route, saving 40-60 minutes during peak hours. The much-delayed six-lane road was built at a cost of Rs 454 crore. The maximum speed limit for all vehicles is 30 km per hour as per the regulations of Mumbai Traffic Police. Halting or parking of vehicles on the entire stretch is prohibited. The SCLR was termed an ‘engineering marvel’ by the National Geographic Society, according to Wikimedia.

The work on the link road was scheduled to commence in September 2003 but it got delayed by 4 years and began only in 2007. The 45.7 metre wide SCLR has a total of three flyovers on its route. Entry is prohibited for pedestrians, heavy vehicles and all type of bicycles. The SCLR is one of the biggest MMRDA projects aimed at improving the road infrastructure in Mumbai.
