An Interview with Rajshri

Why did you decide to become an actor?

I was born and brought up in Mumbai and was always exposed to Bollywood. On Sundays, we used to assemble and watch movies on TV. Needless to say, the after-effects were enacting a character from the movie. Most of the movies at that time were Amitabh Bachchan's, so obviously I had to enact him. I dabbled in theatre and was part of college plays. I cannot point a time when I took the decision to become an actor, it just happened.

Who gave you the first break?

‘India’s Best Cinestars Ki Khoj’ - a talent-hunt series on Zee TV - where I was the second runner up.

How was it working for Rajshri's film ‘Samrat and Company’?

Rajshri - the name itself mesmerises me. It’s like someone offered me a drive in a Rolls-Royce and asked me how the experience was. My producer Kavita Barjatya and director Kaushik Ghatak are an actor’s dream. They are humble and caring. They are very organised and ensured that the actors were comfortable at all times.

Any memorable experiences on the sets?

Rajeev, Gopal and I were shooting in Film City on a set like Shimla. To save myself from the soaring heat, I removed my jacket, but Rajeev and Gopal couldn’t do that so I had a nice laugh at them. We were shooting for the continuation of the same scene in Shimla where the temperature is really cold! This time, I was without a jacket and Rajeev and Gopal had body warmers! They laughed at me as I had to struggle to keep myself warm.

What projects are you handling now as an actor?

I am shooting for an untitled film being directed by Milind Sagar. The shooting completed its first schedule.

What do you do apart from acting?

I am passionate about cars and I own a customised car showroom too.
