Hyderabad: It is certain to be the sweetest birthday gift that S Fidel R Snehit could present himself.

On the day he turned 15, Snehit (national sub-junior number two) inspired his school, Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan Public School (BVBPS) Jubilee Hills to the boy’s title in the inaugural Telangana State inter-school table tennis championships at St Paul’s Stag Table Tennis Academy here on Friday.

It was doubly rewarding for BVBPS because the siblings from its Sainikpuri centre, Lasya and Sasya, reaffirmed their superiority by winning the title defeating Secunderabad Public School 3-1 in the championship clash.

The boy’s final was a close affair as the defending champions Little Flower Public School (LFPS) proved that they were no pushovers. Giving the eventual champions a run for their money, LFPS players ensured that the verdict was decided by the two reverse singles after having been in the lead at 2-1 following the doubles clash.

B Varun Shankar, who pulled off an upset of sorts in the semifinals while accounting for former State champion, Harsh Lahoti of Oakridge International School, played the perfect foil to Snehit in the dream run by making amends while winning the reverse singles.

Senior principal of the champion outfit, C Rama Devi, hailed the boys and girls for their momentous performances.
