Family of four attempt suicide; two die

Madanapalle: In a tragic incident, four of a family including the mother, her son and two daughters, allegedly attempted suicide by consuming pesticide in Kothur village in Ramasamudram mandal, on Saturday. Two – mother Suseela (45) and her daughter Vanaja--- died while undergoing treatment in a hospital. The remaining two were battling for life.

According to information reaching here, Manjunath recently purchased a motorcycle on loan from a private financer which was objected to by his father Papanna, a barber, keeping in view the family’s economic condition.

After Papanna reprimanded him, Manjunath, who was upset, took the extreme step of attempting suicide by consuming pesticide. Noticing her son’s bid, his mother Suseela too drank the pesticide. Her emotionally-charged daughters, Vanaja and Usha, too follow suit.

They were first admitted to a Punganur hospital where Vanaja died. The three were shifted to the Madanapalle government area hospital where Suseela died. Manjunath was shifted to a private hospital for better treatment, while Usha was moved to Tirupati after her condition turned critical. Both the girls were studying. The incident created a flutter in Ramasamudram. Residents of Kothur were saddened at the tragedy that befell Papanna family. A case was registered.
