KCR, the Chief Minister of Telangana, has been appointed as the Vice Chairman of Southern Zonal Council, whose responsibilities include intrusive management between the centre and the southern states. To this extent, the Centre has taken a choice. KCR will be holding the portfolio for a year. Rajnath Singh, the Union Home Minister, has written to KCR on this very matter. He himself will be acting as the Chairman. The zonal council will play a key role in the matters concerning the states that need cooperation from the Centre.

The member states include Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala and Tamil Nadu, apart from Pondicherry. On the very first year of the formation of Telangana, the state’s first chief minister got the appointment as the Vice Chairman, adding a note of recognition to the very issue. The council needs to consider various issues such as the strengthening of national integrity, completing the development projects at stipulated times etc.
