It might be noted that protests and counter-protests have taken place at NIT on Monday. It was alleged the security in-charge A A Qureshi has beaten up a security guard for misbehaving with a girl student. Following which the security men staged protest at the main gate. Opposing their protest the students staged protest at administrative building. The non-teaching staff too joined the protest and condemned the alleged highhandedness of Qureshi.

On Tuesday, Warangal (West) MLA D Vinay Bhaskar met the NIT director Prof T Srinivasa Rao and raised the issue of beating up of security guards and subsequent protests at the institute. The governing council members of the institute were also present at the meeting. After long deliberations it was decided to suspend the security in-charge Qureshi and another employee Balasubrahmanyam. An inquiry was also launched to probe the entire episode, the MLA informed. He urged the officials to protect the reputation and name of the NIT by initiating measures to prevent unrest on the campus.
