Algeria's national airline which has lost contact with a plane carrying 110 passengers excluding 6 flight crews after it disappeared on the Radar scope has got crashed on a flight from Burkina Faso to Algiers. It was just 50 minutes after take-off Air Algerie that the navigation services lost track of the flight around. The plane, which is owned by Spanish private company Swiftair, was last picked up on radar at 07.25 am IST, According to sources. The aircraft was reportedly an airbus A320 or a McDonnell Douglas MD-83. The flight path of AH5017 from Ouagadougou, the capital of the West African nation of Burkina Faso, to Algiers was not immediately clear.

Sources also added that the plane was not far from the Algerian frontier when the crew was asked to make a detour because of poor visibility and to prevent the risk of collision with another aircraft on the Algiers-Bamako route. Contact was lost after the change of course, added sources.

In general Flight radars monitor moving objects only, so if an aircraft disappears from the screens it either means the plane has become stationary or there has been a fault with the tracking system.

It is learnt that the missing AH5017 crashed on board and was carrying 110 passengers.
