TS govt proposes Pharma City on 7,000 acres by 2015 end, Telangana government is proposing to shift pharmaceutical industries in Jeedimetla and other parts of the city to Pharma City which will come up in a sprawling 7000 acres on city outskirts by the end of next year.

Hyderabad: The Telangana government is proposing to shift pharmaceutical industries in Jeedimetla and other parts of the city to Pharma City which will come up in a sprawling 7000 acres on city outskirts by the end of next year.
In a review meeting held in this connection at Secretariat on Wednesday, KCR said once Pharma City project took shape, all drug and pharma units, including ancillaries, in and around Hyderabad should move there.
He directed officials to study the best pharma policy being implemented abroad and make suitable recommendations for the State. He also suggested that international consultancy with expertise in pharma sector for designing Pharma City in Hyderabad should be roped in. He is even planning to appoint a senior IAS officer and a dedicated department to ensure successful launching of this key project of the government.
Pointing out that China and India were rapidly growing nations in the entire world when it came to Pharma sector, He felt that Telangana State could offer good prospects in this field. Hyderabad, with its vast resources and good connectivity like road, rail and airways. besides congenial atmosphere, would fit the bill perfectly for Pharma development, he opined.
Outlining his government’s policy, KCR said the newly proposed Pharma city on 700 acres would meet all pollution free norms for industry. While 5000 acres would be exclusively allotted to industrial units, the remaining area would house residential colony for staff working in Pharma City. In view of five lakh new jobs likely to be created with this project, the Chief Minister stated that his government would build a satellite township for staff working in Pharma sector.
Besides extending land, water and other facilities, KCR promised to ensure that a power plant with 500 MW capacity would be established adjacent to Pharma City to provide captive, dedicated and uninterrupted power supply to the pharma industry.
Representatives belonging to bulk drug manufacturers association, including its president Jayanth Tagore and general secretary R K Agarwal and senior officials took part in the meeting.
Earlier making a presentation to the Chief Minister on the salient features of Telangana Pharmaceutical Industry, the Association members mentioned that 30 per cent of medicines exported to USA were from Telangana State. The total production is valued at Rs 65, 168 crores while exports of medicines from Telangana state are valued at Rs 32,584 crores. They added that Pharmaceutical Industry in Telangana contributes substantially to Central and State exchequers.
