Hyderabad: The two main parties in Andhra Pradesh, TDP and YSRCP locked horns in a war of words over the issue of loan waiver scheme. Expressing their displeasure over the modalities announced by the AP Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, the YSRCP has called for a three-day protests across the State from Thursday. The protests have been planned to highlight the TDP government’s failure to keep its promise to waive farm loans and also those of DWACRA women in to toto.

Addressing the media on Wednesday, YSRCP president Y S Jaganmohan Reddy called upon the people of the State to observe three- day ‘Narakasura Vadha’ (a ritual performed by burning effigies of Narakasura) from Thursday.

He alleged that Naidu had constituted the Kotaiah Committee to pull the wool over the people’s eyes. He accepted the Committee’s recommendations and announced waiver of farm loans of just Rs 43,000 crore apart from those of DWACRA women and weavers.

Jagan also appealed to other opposition parties, including the BJP to join the stir.

Displaying the pamphlets and CDs containing the speeches of Naidu on the loan waiver scheme during the election campaign, Jagan wondered why a case under section 420 IPC(Cheating) cannot be registered against the Chief Minister for coming to power by taking the people for a ride.

Jagan said in the letter, given to the Election Commission, Naidu had categorically stated that the financial implications of the election promise of loan waiver were taken into account.

The YSRCP leaders described Naidu’s idea of mortgaging red sander trees to mobile resources to facilitate implementation of loan waiver scheme as “insane.”

In a swift counter attack, the ruling TDP on Wednesday branded the opposition leader Jaga and his father and late chief minister YS Rajasekhara Reddy as 'anti-farmer. '

State Agriculture minister P Pulla Rao said the accusations made by Jagan against the government on the implementation of the loan waiver scheme were baseless. All the debt-ridden farmers were getting relief up to Rs 1.50 lakh under the scheme. There was no scope of leaving the farmers in lurch as the government was committed to waive off loans taken by all peasants. He said it appears Jagan has not yet come out of the depression after the debacle of his party in the general elections.

State Finance minister Y Ramakrishnudu said it was Jagan who wrote a letter to the Union government against the loan waiver scheme when TDP announced the scheme in its election manifesto.
