Hyderabad: The blame game is on in regard to fixing the responsibility for the accident that took place in Medak district on Thursday.

The Railways feel that prima facie it seems proper precaution was not taken by the bus driver before crossing the tracks. But the political leaders belonging to TDP, Congress, YSRCP and even the Ministers and Chief Minister of Telangana State held the Railways responsible for the incident.

Telangana State Home Minister Naini Narsimha Reddy said though there had been a demand for installing railway gate at the crossing for some time, the Railway authorities did not respond.

Congress leader and former MP Madhu Yashki Goud, who visited the accident site of Masaipet in Medak district, criticised the Railway department for their negligence in erecting gates at the unmanned level-crossings. He also said in the Nizamabad district also, several manned railway level-crossings had been removed in the name of conversion into Broad Gauge. He stressed the need for taking measures for the safety of people. The Minister for Irrigation T Harish Rao blamed Railway department for the accident. State government would write a letter to the Centre over this issue and to request the Railway Ministry to build under bridges and over bridges at these unmanned railway crossings. Various theories are doing rounds regarding the cause of the accident.

According to some, driver Bikshapati was not a regular bus drive. It is said that he had joined the duty only two days back and was basically a tractor driver. It is said that he was in a hurry to reach the school which starts at 9.10 am. According to another source, it was the first time the school bus driver took the particular route to reach the school. But local people claim that this was the regular route that was being taken by the school bus and the regular driver was aware of the timings of the train.

Some claim that the driver Bikshapati was careless and was talking on mobile phone while driving and did not notice the oncoming train though children were screaming "Uncle, Uncle" and by the time he realised the danger, it was too late.

Additional Director General (ADG) PR, Railways, Anil Saxena "A school bus without observing mandatory precautions tried to cross the track when the train was on the track. It is an unfortunate, tragic accident.
