  • Delay in counselling forces students to take admission outside State

Hyderabad: The Andhra Pradesh government is planning to do away with EAMCET for admissions into professional courses in the State.

Speaking to reporters here on Friday, Andhra Pradesh Human Resource Development minister Ganta Srinivasa Rao said that the government had sent a team of officials to Tamil Nadu to study the system that was prevailing there. He said once the team submitted its report, the government would examine the possibility of admissions into professional courses like Engineering and Medicine based on the marks secured by the students in Intermediate examination. The minister blamed the Telangana government for delay in conducting the EAMCET counselling. He said the avoidable delay had caused several problems forcing the students to go to other states to get admission since the academic year had already begun.

It may be mentioned that Eamcet counselling was being delayed as the Telangana government decided to fix 1956 as the cut-off date to determine local status of the candidates and it would go against the para 95 of the Andhra Pradesh State Reorganisation Act to continue the existing admission process for the next 10 years in accordance with Article 371 (D).
