On Saturday, the Siva Rama Krishnan Committee formed by the Central government looked in to the options for the likely state capital of residuary Andhra Pradesh called on Chandra Babu Naidu, the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh. The committee gave a powerpoint presentation regarding their findings on various options for the state capital. The committee reportedly said Chandra Babu Naidu that the state capital can be built in the VGTM area (Vijaywada-Guntur-Tenali-Mangalagiri area) but at the same time expressed the weak-link of non availability of surplus government and forest lands in the area.

The committee is all set to submit its report by the end of August, according to sources. The committee had toured various places in all the 13 districts of the Andhra Pradesh and had studied the factors needed to make a good capital. The committee recently took Andhra Pradesh government’s opinion too in this aspect. It is said that the Municipality and Urban Development Minister P.Narayana has informed the committee that the government is in favour of setting up the capital between Vijayawada and Guntur as the place will be equidistant from all the districts of the state. Also, there are enough water resources available there to cater the needs of the capital.
