T JAC Chairman professor Kodandaram had to face heat from Osmania Students regarding the issue of regularization of contract employees. Kodandaram, who led the Telangana movement with strong support from the students, is now gheraoed in the campus.

He was all set to address a session on Polvaram issue at theUniversity. The protests have been taking place ever since theTelangana CM announced that all contract jobs would be made permanent. There are about 70,000 contract workers in 90 departments, of which the state is planning to segregate at least 40,000 employees using the nativity criteria.

Students are alleging that most of contract employees had secured jobs based on recommendations from politicians without following proper recruitment procedures. They are not opposing the contract employees, who have been working since 20 years at a lower pay scale. They are objecting that there are many employees have secured jobs during the last 5-10 years and there are complaints that the decisive factor for such selection was political meddling.

Regularizing contract jobs would automatically freeze fresh recruitment process for almost a decade subsequently. The youth were aspiring to get government jobs after the formation of the state. OU JAC said that this decision to regularize contract staff deprives genuine and qualified students of government jobs.
