Pankaj SinghSouthampton: Medium pacer Pankaj Singh on Sunday became the 282nd player to debut for India in Test cricket. The injured Ishant Sharma, whose 7 for 74 in the second innings helped India to a 95-run win at Lord's, made way for the Rajasthan player. Former India captain Sourav Ganguly handed the Test cap to the bowler ahead of the third game against England in Southampton.

Pankaj had earlier this year voiced his frustration on not being picked for India despite finishing among the highest wicket-takers in the Ranji Trophy for the third successive season. He picked up 39 wickets last season including four five-wicket hauls yet remained overlooked. In the Irani Cup as well, Pankaj impressed with six wickets for Rest of India against Karnataka.
