SCHE to conduct engg counselling, The State Council for Higher Education (SCHE) has decided to conduct the engineering counselling process in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana states despite dissent from the Telangana government.
Hyderabad: The State Council for Higher Education (SCHE) has decided to conduct the engineering counselling process in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana states despite dissent from the Telangana government.
The decision comes in wake of SCHE chairman Prof. L Venugopal Reddy’s meeting with IYR Krishna Rao, chief secretary Andhra Pradesh government. According to sources in Andhra Pradesh, LV Reddy discussed the dissent put up by the Telangana government over starting up the process of counselling.
The council will also explain about the situation in both the states to the Supreme Court and seek appropriate directions with regard to the contentious issue.
Speaking to media at State Council for Higher Education at Masab Tank here on Tuesday, Reddy said that the council had authority to conduct counselling and admissions in educational institutions through a common entrance test for the students in undivided state of Andhra Pradesh and they will continue to do so for both the states of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana for the next 10 years as per section 75 of Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act.
Reddy also mentioned that proposed action on starting up the process is in conformity with section 75 of Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act which provides for common admission procedure for a period of 10 years. Sources in Andhra Pradesh claimed that, the government had put pressure on the council to commence the process of counselling.
However, Reddy said that the decision was taken in view of the fact that many students are moving to other states for admissions. “While I was in Tirupati and Visakhapatnam, several students, parents and organisations gave their representations to start the counselling. A decision was taken in the larger interest of students as any further delay will result in the loss of a full year to ECET candidates and a year to EAMCET candidates.
Replying to a volley of questions on whether engineering counselling notification would be released on Wednesday, Venugopal said that a decision has been taken by the council; it’s their responsibility to implement the same.
