Vijayawada: After a kidney center in Hyderabad sent documents of a kidney donor for verification to the police station and the MRO office here, a kidney racket involving exchange of lakhs of rupees has been busted. The Satyanarayanapuram police arrested five persons and are searching for another three.

ACP G Rama Krishna and CI P Satyanandam said that the kingpin of the racket, Sai Kumar, would get in touch with the needy for money in exchange of kidney. When a Microsoft employee of Hyderabad, Chakaravarthi Srinivas, happened to meet Sai for kidney donor, Sai arranged the donor Durga Prasad for a deal of Rs 2 lakh. He showed one Uma Devi as the wife of Durga Prasad and produced fake documents with bogus stamps. The accused Bala Singh and Prudhvi Raj forged the signatures of the MRO and the RDO on the documents, complete with stamps and seals.

However, the Hyderabad kidney centre grew suspicious and sent the documents for verification to the officials, following which the facts surfaced. The police arrested M Durga Prasad, M Naga Sai Durga, G Uma Devi and B Bala Singh along with B Prudhvi Raju. A case was registered under the Sections of the Criminal Act 468,471 and 120 (B). The other three Devaraj, brother of Prudhvi Raj, Sai Kumar and Padma Singh were to be nabbed. The CI will visit Hyderabad for further probe into the case.
