Reservoirs start getting inflows, The constant rise of water levels in various reservoirs built on Krishna and Godavari Rivers has raised hopes of Telangana farmers for better produce this Kharif season.

Hyderabad: The constant rise of water levels in various reservoirs built on Krishna and Godavari Rivers has raised hopes of Telangana farmers for better produce this Kharif season. Incessant rains in neighboring Karnataka, Maharashtra and Chhattisgarh states, coupled with decent showers in Telangana districts for the last four days, have ensured that several reservoirs are filled to the brim. Although the state is reeling under a scanty rainfall this monsoon, bountiful rains in neighboring states have come as a major relief to to the farmers.
Floodwaters are gushing into Almatti reservoir due to incessant rains in Karnataka for last few days. On Tuesday, Almatti dam recorded inflows of 1.08 lakh cusecs touching 114 tmcft against the total capacity of 130 tmcft. Water is being released to Narayanpur which recorded inflows of 68,252 cusecs touching 31 tmcft against the gross capacity of 37.6 tmcft. In view of heavy downpour in the upper Karnataka region, water is being released from Almatti dam to Narayanpur project and later to Jurala barrage in Telangana.
Heavy inflows Jurala project will augur well for Srisailam and Nagarjuna Sagar dams. In addition, the drinking water needs of Hyderabad will also be met without worries. Farmers in Telangana districts especially Nalgonda and Mahabubnagar in Krishna Basin are hoping that rain god continues to show mercy on them in the coming days.
A good amount of downpour in the bordering areas of Karnataka and Telangana states led to around 300 cusecs of floodwater accumulating in Jurala barrage for the last few days. This resulted in irrigation authorities to release water to the Ayacut falling under Nettempadu and Bheema projects.
Water released from Almatti
Karnataka irrigation officials lifted 15 gates of Almatti dam to release around 1.1 lakh cusecs of water on Tuesday. This water would reach Narayanpur reservoir and from there to Jurala Barrage in Telangana. It is expected that this floodwater would get to Jurala by Wednesday morning. Heavy inflow of floodwater into Almatti dam because of continued downpour led Karnataka officials to release water to downstream areas.
If water release from Almatti will continue for the next two days, Jurala barrage would be filled to the brim in no time and later water would be released to Srisailam project.
