L Venugopal Reddy Chairman, APSCHEHyderabad: Ending the long wait for EAMCET counselling, Andhra Pradesh State Council for Higher Education (APSCHE) on Wednesday announced the schedule for engineering counselling.

According to the Council for Higher Education the verification of the certificates for Engineering courses will take place between August 7 and 23 in both Andhra Pradesh and Telangana states. The Council said that since the case pertaining to EAMCET counselling was pending in the Supreme Court, allotment of seats and other related information would be announced once the Supreme Court gives its verdict. There will be 23 help centres in Telangana and 34 in Andhra Pradesh where students can get their certificates verified.

The list of helpline centres will be hosted on the website www.eamcet.nic.in on August 5. The Council had called for 1 to 5000 ranks on day one of the certificate verification in both the states This announcement has led to a fresh controversy between the Telangana and Andhra Pradesh governments. The Telangana government which had locked horns with AP on the issue of fee reimbursement had approached the Supreme Court seeking postponement of EAMCET counselling. The apex court did not give any direction to AP to stop the process of counselling.

The Telangana officials did not attend the meeting of the Higher education council last week saying that they would not like to be party to it since the matter was sub-judice. Following the announcement of the schedule on Wednesday, the TS government had made it clear that it was in no mood to cooperate with the AP government as they had taken a unilateral decision. Telangana Minister for Education G Jagdishwar Reddy called upon the students of Telangana not to participate in the process of counselling. He said this was a drama by AP CM N Chandrababu Naidu to force the TS government to give fee reimbursement to Andhra students. The matter is sub judice.

The TS government is committed to provide financial aid to TS students only. He said counseling for TS students would be notified soon. The Minister said the government had constituted a task force to identify bogus colleges and once the report comes, it would notify the date for counselling.

The TS government also claims that the process of counselling cannot move forward if any of the two states object to it though the Andhra Pradesh Re-Organisation Act 2014 says that the State Council for Higher Education will conduct common entrance tests for both the states for 10 years.

But according to G Vinod Kumar, Principal, PG College of Law Osmania University, even if the TS government opposes, the process of counselling cannot be stopped.
