Thousands of pilgrims throng the Tirumala daily for dharshan of Lord Venkateswara. While some of the devotees trudge up the hill, some others reach the seven hills by various modes of transport. There is increasing number of accidents on the second ghat road of late. The TTD, worried over the trend, has devised ways to prevent the accidents.

A Hyderabad-based solar energy company owned by film actor Rajendraprasad’s brother Sukumar has come forward voluntarily to donate 1000 solar powered LED safety lamps. Solar panels too will be erected to enable the batteries inside the lamps to get charged during the day time by the sun light. The lamps will remain glowing throughout night. These lamps will be installed at the hairpin curves along the ghat road. These lamps will caution the drivers from the distance of half-a-kilometre. These LED lamps will be helpful to those drivers who visit Tirumala for the first time, apart from all others who drive up the hill daily.

Most of the accidents are caused by rash driving by those who come to Tirumala from far-off places. Those, who come from far-off places, are reportedly driving their vehicle at break-neck speed during night time to reach Tirumala speedily.
