New Delhi: The NDA government on Friday indicated that it would not interfere with regard to the conduct of the Civil Services Aptitude Test (CSAT) in the civil services preliminary exam by the UPSC and the CSAT would be held on schedule on August 24.

Home Minister Rajnath Singh, making a statement in the Rajya Sabha, said, “The Government would find out an appropriate solution to the problem of language issue in UPSC examination at the earliest. The Government has taken a serious note of the agitation by the students. We have received the report of the committee, which was looking into it, and we are studying the way out.”

However, the entire Opposition walked out of the House in protest. A committee headed by Arvind Verma, formed to look into various aspects of the change in pattern of the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) exam, had submitted its report to the Central Government on Thursday.

The Opposition parties created ruckus over the issue of regional language aspirants having disadvantage in Civil Services examination, leading to two adjournments during the Question Hour. Immediately after obituary reference to Pune landslide victims, the opposition members, including those from Congress, SP and JD-U, were on their feet raising the issue of UPSC examination pattern.

In the Lok Sabha, Parliamentary Affairs Minister M Venkaiah Naidu said the government was ready for a discussion if proper notice was given by the members. Congress floor leader M Mallikarjun Kharge said the time of the House would not have been wasted if the Chair had allowed "simple" clarifications as had happened in the past.

An agitated RJD member Rajesh Ranjan alias Pappu Yadav stormed the Well waving a newspaper while seeking a statement on the UPSC exam row and later tore the newspaper and threw it in the Well, with some landing on the Speaker's table. Later, during his Zero Hour mention, Speaker Sumitra Mahajan chided him saying his behaviour in the House was not proper, forcing him to apologise, not once but twice.
