Fire accident in apartment

Hyderabad: A fire accident, which took place in Kochar Apartment near Shoppers Stop, Begumpet left the residents living in the vicinity panic-stricken on Wednesday.

Believed to be caused due to short circuit, it damaged property worth Rs 5 lakh before the fire fighters could contain the fire. The residents of the apartment ran for their lives, even as the fire engulfed one of the flats. The Apartment was meant for residential purpose, but locals alleged that the several flat owners have leased them for commercial purposes. Three similar accidents took place under the Begumpet Police Station limits earlier.

Prisoner working at petrol pump runs away with cash

Hyderabad: A prisoner, working at a petrol pump near Chanchalguda Central Prison, escaped with Rs 65,000 cash in the wee hours of Wednesday, police said. Syed Sajid, a convict in a case of abetment to commit suicide of his wife, had been working at the petrol pump for the past 15 days. He escaped at around 2.30 am with cash that was collected at the pump, Chanchalguda Jail Superintendent B Saidaiah said.

Sajid was shifted from Cherlapalli Jail to Chanchalguda Central Prison a fortnight ago. Prisoners with good behaviour in prison and facing non-serious offences are employed at the petrol pump. He was due to be released in next eight months, Saidaiah said.

Chanchalguda Jail authorities lodged a complaint with Dabeerpura police in connection with the incident. Two teams have been formed to nab the convict, he added.
