Hyderabad: The by-election to the Medak Lok Sabha seat, scheduled to be held on September 13, is going to pose a big challenge for the Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao as the rat race for the seat in the party has begun.

Besides local leaders and few rich businessmen, an employee leader has also thrown his hat into the ring. KCR is expected to announce the candidate soon after his return from Singapore on August 24. The last date for nominations is August 27. The election has been necessitated following the resignation of KCR after he became the CM.

Moreover, this is the first election after TRS came to power in the State. Hence, pink party is considering this election as very prestigious one and wants to ensure a landslide victory for its nominee. For this same reason, KCR’s nephew and Irrigation Minister T Harish Rao was asked to charge of duties. Seven MLAs would be assisting him in devising party strategies to regain the seat. The Congress party which is riddled with infighting has also decided to utilise the opportunity to revive its fortune. Party senior leader G Chinna Reddy who enjoys some clout at 7 Janpath rushed to Delhi and met the party president Sonia Gandhi and discussed the issue. The search for a candidate who could give a tough fight to TRS is on, Congress sources claim.

According to Chinna Reddy, the party knows that it has an uphill task but if can give a tough fight to TRS, it would help as a stepping stone for revival of the party. It remains to be seen if the former Medak MP Vijayashanthi who crossed over to Congress after the State Reorganisation Bill was passed would seek the ticket again or not. However, TRS is at an advantage over other parties since Medak is considered to be the bastion of the pink party.

According to party insiders, KCR political secretary S Subhash Reddy, TRS Medak president R Satyanarayana and TRS Medak in-charge Rajaiah Yadav have pinned high hopes on being nominated for the seat. All these three hail from Medak district. Names of few rich businessmen KS Prabhakar Reddy of Sony Travels and Prashanth Reddy, a reputed realtor in Bangalore with roots in Medak district have also staked claims for TRS ticket.

TNGO president G Deviprasad is also in race. The state executive body of TNGOs adopted a resolution to this effect and approached Chandrasekhar Rao to field their leader from Medak in recognition of employees’ unparalleled role in statehood movement.
