Financial Literacy Campaign in Trains, Since financial inclusion initiative launched by Reserve Bank in 2006, over 18 crore new bank accounts have been opened across the country.

Hyderabad: The Regional Office of National Bank of Agriculture and Rural Development (Nabard) which has been adopting novel campaign modes to enhance awareness about banking services among rural masses is now tapping train services for its 'Vithiya Saksharatha Abhiyan’ campaign aimed at improving financial literacy across Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.

On Friday, the premier bank launched the campaign by flagging off Secunderabad- Guntur Golconda Express from Secunderabad Railway Station. The train has been decked up with posters and publicity materials with attractive messages on the importance of banking services and financial inclusion.

“Since financial inclusion initiative launched by Reserve Bank in 2006, over 18 crore new bank accounts have been opened across the country. But majority of them are not being used by the customers. Our campaign is not only aimed at encouraging people without bank accounts to open accounts, but also targeted at promoting regular use of the existing accounts,” Jiji Mammen, Chief General Manager, TS and AP Regional Office (RO), Nabard, told media here before flagging off the train.
