Hyderabad: According to sources, the 27-year-old Corey Griffin, one of the founders of the Ice Bucket Challenge to support Lou Gehrig's disease research has died in a diving accident. He helped popularize the worldwide trend, in which people either pledge donation to ALS research or record themselves getting soaked by frozen water, then post the stunt online and challenge others to do the same.

It is learnt that Griffin jumped into the water from a building on a wharf that was a popular diving spot in Nantucket Island, Massachusetts. He reportedly plugged into the water where he floated to the surface. Griffin then went under water again not resurfacing, added sources. Sources also said that a friend who was diagnosed with the neurodegenerative disease inspired Griffin to help create the benevolent challenge.
