Vijayawada: With the State government finally zeroing in on the city as the temporary capital, local officials are looking for suitable buildings to accommodate government departments.

They are inspecting various buildings---both houses and offices---for senior government functionaries, including the Chief Minister, ministers, the Chief Secretary, principal secretaries and department heads.

According to highly placed sources, the government is keen on locating some important departments in the Medha Towers, opposite the Gannavaram airport, and the Laila Complex, constructed by a private firm.

While the Medha Towers was constructed by L&T to accommodate IT companies, the Laila Complex was built by industrialist-politician Gokaraju Ganga Raju as a joint venture with AP Tourism. The five-storeyed complex is incomplete for various reasons.

The government wants to take-over the building that came up on irrigation land, replacing the historic Canal Guest House, which was exclusively dedicated to VVIPs, including the President, the Prime Minister, the Governors and Chief Ministers of the State, during their visit here.

Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister P Narayana, who heads a non-official committee constituted by the government to study the capital issue, inspected the two buildings. He instructed officials to prepare budget estimates to complete them, besides identifying new buildings.
