Warangal: An Italian couple has set an example on how to make one’s wedding meaningful and helpful to others. Instead of receiving gifts from their near and dear, the couple Constance and Giovanni of Milan in Italy has gifted a water purification project to the residents of Garibnagar under Warangal Municipal Corporation limits.
Thanks to their efforts, a 1000 litres per hour capacity fully automated (Reverse Osmosis) RO filtration technology water purification plant has been successfully installed, benefiting 500 slum dwellers at the colony.
Kazipet based social service organization Bala Vikasa has executed the project at the colony as part of its community water purification plant programme. This was 620th plant that Bala Vikasa has set up across many villages in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. The water plant would be managed by the residents of the colony forming into a group with the help of the Bala Vikasa. The families would have access to safe drinking water round the clock through Any Time Water (ATW) technology at just Rs 3 for 20 litres.
Bala Vikasa executive director S Shoury Reddy, accompanied by project coordinator Balamohan Reddy, has inaugurated the water purification plant gifted by the Italian couple at a programme organised at Garibnagar which was attended by more than 1,000 residents of the colony on Wednesday. Speaking on the occasion, Shoury Reddy explained how the Italian couple (Constance and Giovanni) has set a new trend in celebrating weddings. “Initiative of the couple is a true inspiration as they thought their happiness should last further than just on the wedding day,” he said.
The couple realized that donating towards a good cause for the poor would make them happier than spending on lavish celebrations. They donated their contribution towards an Italian NGO, School for Children, which works closely with Bala Vikasa.
Others could learn from this spirit of generosity and spread the message for elite Indians to follow it.
When the couple announced their charity initiative, many friends and families donated more than the regular amount, appreciating the motive behind this noble idea, Shoury Reddy explained.
The couple raised Rs 10 lakhs for setting up of five water plants in India, the third of which is in Garibnagar.
“This story would encourage similar initiatives amongst the local urban population,” hoped Bala Vikasa executive director.
