Acting on a tip-off, the sleuths apprehended the accused Govind Kumar Singh, 18, a native of Uttar Pradesh and Abdul Nadeem alias Baba, 25, of Mehdipatnam on Friday near auto-rickshaw stand in Secunderabad.

“On interrogation, it was revealed that Govind, who migrated to the city a couple of months ago to eke out a living by working as an ice cream vendor, used to stay at Erragadda. He started associating himself with one Amarjith Kumar, a native of Bihar. Govind, who wanted to make easy money, took the advice of Amarjith to smuggle the counterfeit currency from Farakka in West Bengal to Hyderabad and hand them over to Abdul Nadeem,” DCP, Task Force, B Limba Reddy said. Amarjith, who was a habitual offender, had a few previous cases for smuggling counterfeit currency pending against him. He was earlier arrested by Sanathnagar police, the DCP added.

He further said Abdul had enticed Govind into these illegal activities of circulating counterfeit currency in the city.
The accused persons along with the seized currency were handed over to Gopalpuram police station for further investigation.
