Manu Mukt Manav, a trainee IPS officer belonging to Hissar district of Haryana, drowned in the pool during a batch-mates' party of trainee officers in the Officer’s Club in the academy campus on Thursday night.

According to police, at the end of the party, the officer entered into the pool and attempted to cross over to the other side. When he was seen struggling in the water, fellow batch-mates rescued him and performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation. He was thereafter taken to National Police Academy Hospital. From there, he was shifted to Care Hospital at Banjara Hills where doctors declared him brought dead. "The party was held to mark the completion of training and it continued till midnight. After the party, he went to the swimming pool along with another trainee officer. It is not clear how Manu drowned," cops said. NPA Director Aruna Bahugana ordered an internal probe into the incident. The body was shifted to Osmania Hospital mortuary for post-mortem examination, following which it was handed over to his relatives.

Rajendranagar police registered a case under Section 174 (suspicious death) of the CrPC and launched an investigation.
