Hyderabad: A low pressure area over the Bay of Bengal again on Sunday promises a fresh round of wet spell for Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.

Heavy rains lashed both the States wreaking havoc as crops in some areas suffered damage while some villages were completely cut-off due to gushing of waters.

In Telangana, Adilabad district received heavy rainfall since Friday resulting in flash floods in rivers and streams. The open cast coal mining in the district was affected due to flooding. Mining operations at Dorli-1, Dorli-2 and other open cast mines had to be discontinued. The overflowing Gundivagu rivulet breached the road, affecting movement of traffic in Asifabad.

In the Khammam district, the heavy rains led to Godavari River being in spate. Taliperu reservoir's 18 gates were opened to release 90 thousand cusecs of water. The Kinnerasani, Pedavagu, Bayyaram Cheruvu, Vyra reservoir were filled to brim. About 25 villages were marooned by Cherukupally rivulet.

Many other rivulets are flowing at dangerous levels. The fields close to the river were flooded crops of Green gram and cotton. The lakes and tanks were also flooded with waters.

While in Ranga Reddy District the Kagna river has cut-off the road at Tandur and some of the villages faced blackout as power supply was interrupted. Even Shamsha- bad mandal received heavy rainfall, where hundreds of acres of crop got inundated. Contact with some of the villages in the mandal with Hyderabad and Mahbubnagar were cut-off.

In Mahbubnagar district, the heavy downpour has caused damage to cotton, green gram and corn crops.

In AP, Vizianagaram district witnessed continuous rainfall for last two days. The lakes and tanks in the districts were filled to the maximum level.

The farmers are expressing satisfaction that the water would help their crop.

In Kurnool, the rainfall caused the Kundu river to flow at dangerous levels, cutting off some of the villages.

Vijayawada saw heavy flow of water into Prakasam barrage. The Jurala project is receiving 1.40 lakh cusecs of water, currently. The Srisailam project is receiving 10,000 cusecs of water after 16 gates of it were opened. The Jurala touched almost 318.45 mts of water level, the maximum level of the project. The Srisailam project received 883.9 feet of water, when the FTL stands at 885 feet.
