To supply ISI mark pump sets to farmers free of cost

Hyderabad: Turning down the criticism of the Opposition party in the Assembly, the Andhra Pradesh government on Monday said that it had already succeeded in bringing down power shortage to zero level and had succeeded in getting AP among the list of three states which will become ‘power-for- all’ states with Central help.

Replying to a question on power situation in the State by Peddireddy Ramachandra Reddy of YSR Congress Party, Minister Palle Raghunatha Reddy said the centrally sponsored scheme covered Delhi, Rajasthan and AP. He said from October 2 onwards, AP would have round-the-clock power supply.

He also told the member that the government had decided to make sure that the farmers go in for energy saving devices like ISI marked pump sets that would be supplied free of cost.

He also maintained that the government had decided to increase free power supply from the present seven hours to nine hours in a phased manner and it had already allotted Rs 3,128 crore for free power supply this year.

Taking pot shots at the earlier Congress government, the Minister said during 10 years of Congress rule, the installed capacity was increased only by 56 percent, whereas during the TDP's nine year rule, there was 90 percent increase.

Responding to charge from members of YSRCP that TDP's rule had failed to start even a single AP Genco project during its nine years of rule, he shot back by pointing out the power companies had to face a loss of Rs 1520 crore during the Congress rule. The Minister also claimed that there were 9,140 accidents and 7,388 deaths during the 10 years of Congress rule.
