Mammootty starts My Tree Challenge
The response to the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge was nothing less than epic. City’s very own Rice Bucket Challenge received a tremendous response, too.

The response to the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge was nothing less than epic. City’s very own Rice Bucket Challenge received a tremendous response, too. The latest in the bandwagon is ‘My Tree Challenge’, which has been started by Malayalam actor Mammootty. He took the challenge on August 30 and requested Malayalam industry to take part in this initiative. He went on to nominate Vijay and Suriya from Kollywood and SRK in Bollywood.
Mammootty updated the following message on his personal page about ‘My Tree Challenge’: “Trees are vital for the existence of a greener Earth. In this time of urbanisation a simple act of rooting an indigenous tree will repay the environment in many ways, from filtering the air to decreasing soil erosion, creating shade, helping recycle water and building an eco system with birds and other life forms around it.
“As you all know, the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge has gone viral. I am proud to kick start a novel concept called ‘My Tree Challenge’. I request all my friends from the Malayalam Film Industry and all Facebook friends to join in for the good cause and make this world a greener place to live in. I challenge Shah Rukh Khan from Bollywood, Vijay and Surya from Tamil Film Industry to plant a sapling and join this Eco-revolution.”
The challenge is a brain child of Imthias Kadeer, a travel photographer, and Abdul Manaf, CEO of Easysoft Technologies, and Mammotty is the chief mentor. The challenge has garnered terrific response and the Facebook page has around 70,000 likes.
