Hyderabad: The Andhra Pradesh government, as promised at the time of elections, will be launching several welfare schemes from October 2.

The paperless Cabinet meet, which was held for more than four hours, has decided to launch NTR Sujala Sravanthi, a safe drinking water scheme, in 171 assembly constituencies covering 1,230 villages apart from pension to several sections of the society, NTR Arogya Seva, issue of health cards and others.

Speaking to media persons, Minister for IT Palle Raghunadha Reddy said under the NTR Sujala Sravanthi, people in rural areas would get safe drinking water for an affordable price of Rs 2 per 20 litres. Giving details about the pension, the Minister said the old age pension would cover 20,72,338 persons, widow pension would cover 13,21,420, physically-challenged 5,36,998, weavers 74, 673 and toddy tappers 10, 024. In all 43, 12, 533 persons would be covered under various pensions which would incur an expenditure of Rs 3,600 crore sanctioned in the budget.

He further informed that the Central government was sanctioning an average amount of Rs 300 for 9 lakh persons under various categories. Identification of new beneficiaries would be conducted from September 19 to September 21 and the list would be cleared from village to district level.

He said on the health front, the Cabinet decided to launch NTR Arogya Seva health scheme which would replace the existing Rajiv Arogyasri. The new health insurance scheme would cover 100 more diseases in addition to the previous scheme which had 938 diseases.

The Minister further announced that health cards would be issued to the government employees and media persons on October 2. Treatment up to Rs 2.5 lakh would be given free to the beneficiary and their family members.

The Cabinet also decided to sanction eight posts for the communication advisory committee and 83 for legislature committee.
