Hyderabad: Prasheel Anand Banpur, a PhD scholar from department of communication, University of Hyderabad will be the only Indian presenting a research paper at the ‘12th World Congress of Semiotics’. The Congress will be held at New Bulgarian University (NBU), Sofia, Bulgaria. The conference is organised by the Southeast European Center for Semiotic Studies (SEECSS), NBU. The five-day event will commence on September 16 and will conclude on September 20.
Prasheel’s research paper – ‘Flesh, Metal, and Verse: Culture of Violence in Brahmanic Mythological Sign Systems and Meaning’, will be presented on the second day of the congress in the section ‘Semiotics of Religion’.
Prasheel’s paper addresses the myth that Hinduism is a peaceful religion. With semiotic analysis he brings out the key aspects of the religion which are violent. Though his paper drew lot of flak it didn’t deter him from continuing his research.
“I am really happy that I am the only Indian selected to present the paper on semiotics at Sofia. I am looking forward to the event,” says an ecstatic Prasheel.
The 12th World Congress aims to expand and reinforce the semiotic web.
The Congress will be preceded by a broad discussion on social media so as to enable participants to select the most interesting topics and facilitators for scientific sessions and round tables. This will provide an opportunity to highlight the profile of new semiotics.
