‘Carry legacy of OU to your country’
Osmania University (OU) registrar, Prof. K Praptap Reddy, appealed to the international students to transfer history, heritage, culture and value system of the university to their respective countries after graduation.
Hyderabad: Osmania University (OU) registrar, Prof. K Praptap Reddy, appealed to the international students to transfer history, heritage, culture and value system of the university to their respective countries after graduation.
“The degree from this university has a legacy, carry it to your country,” Prof. Reddy said while addressing the seventh graduation ceremony of foreign students at PGRR Centre for Distance Education, OU, on Tuesday.
Prof. Reddy said that getting a degree was not enough, one should succeed in life. “You were awarded with a degree for academic excellence; the knowledge you gained should be utilised to get a name, fame for yourself, family, university and the country,” he said.
Dr Dirgham AH Alkhafaji, Cultural Attache Counsellor Embassy of the Republic of Iraq, New Delhi said that getting a degree was not the end of the day; but it was the start of a new life.
“Now you have to transform yourself from dependent to independent by bagging the best job,” he added.
Dr Alkhafaji said he was happy to be part of the graduation day of international students from across the world. Prof. C Venugopal Rao, director, University Foreign Relations Office (UFRO), stated that over 100 students received their degree and several others left as their results were announced a few months back. He informed that 4,500 students from 84 countries across the world are currently studying in the university. The UFRO director said that this year, university had given 1,613 final admissions to the foreign national and 140 students were expected to join the English course.
“Students from seven new countries: Gambia, Madagasikara, Senegal, Seychelles, Swaziland, Togo, Zimbabwe were added to the list of admissions this year. The university is the most sought university for the international students in the country,” he opined.
Rao said that OU was one among the few universities which admits large number Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) sponsored students every year.
“This year, the university received 450 candidates out of 1,000 sponsored by the ICCR. There was tremendous demand for the BSc, BBA, BCom courses among foreign students,” the director said.
