Varun Gandhi a two term MP had shifted from Plibhit to Sultanpur in the last Lok Sabha elections. This is a constituency in his late father Sanjay Gandhi’s political terrain, and was the party’s general secretary till Amit Shah revamped the organizational set-up.

Varun was dropped from the list of national office bearers and the ostensible reason was that the party wants to adhere to the one family, one post norm. Since mother Maneka is a cabinet minister Varun was sidelined.
Interestingly Shah had also sidelined Home Minister Rajnath Singh’s son Pankaj and denied him the party ticket from Noida. Shah who has been designated as the man of the match of the 2014 triumph by none other than prime minister Narendra Modi had and-picked the Gorakhpur MP Yogi Adityanath as the chief campaigner, but the strategy has apparently back-fired.
But then Maneka is not alone in rooting for Varun, other voices like party MP Bhartendu Singh have also been active in pointing out that after Rajnath Singh moved to national politics, the party has not found a pan-UP leader and “Varun could be a good choice.”
However, in the Modi-Shah dispensation Varun Gandhi stands little chance of being projected as a future leader in the politically most significant state considering that he has a history of several run-ins with the duo during the period they have been at the helm of affairs.
Meanwhile, Centre will make the norms for adopting children easier, Maneka said.
The minister also said that the government is planning to start foster care system in India so that families can take care of children without adopting them.
"The number of children adopted was actually going down in the past few years. We are making changes in the Central Adoption Resource Authority (CARA) to make the process simpler," the minister said.
Maneka said her ministry has not received any official complaint relating to 'love jihad', but as an MP she has been apprised of a few such cases.
