KCR to take over vacant land of the central varsity

It was a miniature Bollywood potboiler, with KCR declaring that he would celebrate Independence Day at the historic Golconda Fort henceforth and the Army throwing a spanner citing land and security reasons. Though the issue was resolved and the first Independence Day of the new state was celebrated at the fort, the government had to heed to the Army’s relentless pressure. With parade grounds ruled out, KCR has instructed the officials to search for a suitable land, which would play a permanent host to Independence Day celebrations and looks like the revenue authorities have found an answer in the vacant land of UoH

  • Ranga Reddy collector and revenue officials inspect the land
  • Gachibowli and Gopanpally alternative options
  • Land scouted for AIIMS, too

According to sources at the revenue department, it is believed that officials are mulling to use the vacant land on the University of Hyderabad (UoH) premises as the parade ground. Land inspection by Ranga Reddy collector Sridhar, along with revenue department officials on Wednesday, has given an impetus to these rumours. Sources at the Ranga Reddy collectorate informed that after the inspection, the collector had spent time verifying the related land records and maps.

Vast lands were given for industries and various institutes in Serilingampally area and a recent survey conducted by the revenue officials found out that most of these lands were unused by the industries. The government had passed a directive ordering the revenue officials to take back the land. It was rumoured that the collector’s land inspection was taken up in this regard.

With the Army saying no to parade and other cultural activities at the Golconda Fort, CM KCR instructed the officials to find a suitable land near the fort that would play host to parade and other related celebrations after the flag hoisting ceremony. The collector’s inspection of vacant lands at UoH created a host of speculations owing to its proximity to the fort.

Apart from land for the parade ground, the inspection aimed at finding unused land which would be allotted for the AIIMS institute sanctioned by the Centre. Reportedly the officials found stretches of land at Gopanpally, Gachibowli and Gowlidoddi.

Reports from Ranga Reddy Collectorate state that the officials are preparing a report suggesting that 40 acre land at survey number 25 in UoH is a suitable venue for parade ground. Revenue department officials state that out of 2,300 acres of land allotted to UoH, there is still a lot of land left unused and this can be used for alternative purposes.

With the proposed shift in venue, the fate of Parade Grounds in Secunderabad, which was the venue for Independence Day and Republic Day parades in undivided Andhra Pradesh, remains unknown. As of now, it’s being used by the Army personnel for training.
