The benchmark BSE Sensex was up 0.24 percent while the broader Nifty rose 0.33 percent as of 11:25 a.m.
Exporters led gains on hopes they were better placed to weather any Fed-related volatility.
Tata Consultancy Services (TCS.NS) gained 2.9 percent, Sun Pharmaceutical Industries was up 0.91 percent.
FIIs built long positions in index futures on Thursday.
