Hyderabad: Senior Congress leader and Member of Parliament V Hanumantha Rao demanded that the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) government save Bathukamma Kunta lake at Amberpet, named after the popular Telangana festival.

Speaking to media persons at Gandhi Bhavan, he alleged that the public representatives and officials under the Unified Andhra Pradesh had failed to pay any attention to several representations made by him. He demanded the newly elected government to save the seven-acre lake from encroachment, as this was known for immersion of Bathukamma by the local women. “When KCR can sanction Rs 10 crore for this festival and inviting women from across the country to take part in the festivities, then why can’t he save this lake?” he questioned.

The Congress MP said that with the intention of pressurising the government, women from Amberpet would be organising a dharna holding Bathukammas near the lake. While extending his support to the demonstration, he sought cooperation from police officials on this. “The festivities of Bathukamma would remain incomplete, until and unless the Bathukamma lake is restored,” he said.
