50 km Border Fencing Damaged. Over 50 km of the three-tier border fencing and flood-lighting have been damaged by the recent floods along the LoC and International Border in Jammu and Kashmir and security forces are racing against time to repair it to prevent cross-border infiltration ahead of winters.

Udhampur: Over 50 km of the three-tier border fencing and flood-lighting have been damaged by the recent floods along the LoC and International Border in Jammu and Kashmir and security forces are racing against time to repair it to prevent cross-border infiltration ahead of winters.
With the Army expressing apprehension that militants might take advantage of the situation and infiltrate, work is going on round-the-clock to plug in the gaps on the fencing.
"As many as 20 to 25 kms of border fencing has been damaged in various patches along the Line of Control in Kashmir and Jammu regions during floods", a senior Army officer told PTI.
Similarly, a BSF officer put the damage caused to fencing along the IB in Jammu frontier to 14 to 15 km along with flood-lighting.
Army Engineers with their men and machines are working round-the-clock to complete the task in the shortest possible time and they have been able to plug the critical gaps in AIOS.
The devastating flood that forced people to put their lives on hold, has also hit wedding plans for many in the Valley.
The day Sajad Ahmed Bhat, a resident of Rambagh locality, was getting ready to bring his bride home, he got a call from his would-be in-laws that the marriage had to be postponed in view of flooding in the area.
Sajad was among many who had to postpone their weddings in the wake of the worst ever flood in a century, that has so far claimed at least 277 lives.
"As I was putting on my wedding costume, I came to know that flood water has entered the house of my bride. Her family had to be rescued after their house got completely inundated," Sajad said.
Union Ministers Nitin Gadari and Jitendra Singh on Monday take an aerial survey of various roads damaged in recent floods in valley in Jammu and Kashmir.
Road Transport, Highways and Shipping Minister Gadkari and Minister of State (MoS) in Prime Minister's officer (PMO) Singh will arrive in Srinagar tomorrow, officials said today.
During his one-day visit to the summer capital, Gadkari will make an on-the-spot assessment of the damage to roads occurring as a result of floods and discuss remedial steps to be taken thereon, they said.
