Guntur: Leaders of different political parties are likely to come together in the wake of the State government denying Metro Rail project to this historic town. Pressure is growing on the people’s representatives to voice their opposition to the Telugu Desam Party denying importance to the district.

A sense of alienation has developed among the people with government adviser on Metro Rail E Sreedharan announcing that the project was restricted to Vijayawada city. This is contrary to the assurances given by TDP president N Chandrababu Naidu and Union Urban Development Minister M Venkaiah Naidu that Metro Rail would cover the Vijayawada-Guntur-Tenali corridor.

With Naidu taking oath as Chief Minister at a public function in Guntur, speculation was rife at that time that the new State capital would be build between Vijayawada and Guntur. But now with the administration concentrating on building a new capital in Vijayawada and developing some areas in Krishna district, people’s representatives in Guntur district are voicing their disenchantment with the government. They feel it is not time to go public with their grievances.

Murmurs of complaint by legislators that influential persons in the government have focussed attention on promoting infrastructure in some areas surrounding Vijayawada, Gannavaram, Hanuman Junction, Nuzvid, Agiripalli and Nanandigama. They accused a ‘coterie’ of people who have vested interests in real estate sector being responsible for bitterness caused to people and their representatives.
