Silk Mark Expo-2014 to be held from September 23-29 at Shilpakala Vedika

How to identify pure silk amongst its look alike fibres? Silk Mark is the answer. Silk Mark is an initiative of the Central Silk Board, Ministry of Textiles and the Government of India.

In a short span of six-and-a half-years, SMOI has achieved spectacular success in enrolling 2,800 quality authorised users and making available millions of Silk Mark labelled products in the consumer market.

The ‘Silk Mark Expo-2014’ in the city will be open for silk lovers of the city from September 23 to September 29 at Shilpakala Vedika near Cyber Towers. The seven days of extravaganza will showcase an entire range of pure silks from remote weaving clusters of India under one roof. 64 participants from over 17 Indian states will enthrall the guests.

The major attractions in pure silk collection for festive shopping this year are Kanjeevaram, Aarni, plain printed/ crape silk from Tamil Nadu and Karnataka, Kalamkari, Pochampally, Gadwal and Upada from Andhra Pradesh, Baluchari, Kantha embroidery, Balucherry, Madhubani, Sambalpuri and Patachitra from West Bengal and Odisha, Valkalam, Jamavar and Pure Tanchoi from Varnasi and Kosa Silk, tribal prints from Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh Tassar Silk Sarees and dress materials from Bihar and Jharkhand, embroidery on Chinnon, Chiffon and georgette from Kashmir, Patola sarees from Gujarat along with huge collection of printed silk sarees from across the country.

The first lady of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, Vimala Narasimhan, has consented to inaugurate the ‘Silk Mark-Vanya Silk Expo-2014 Hyderabad’ on September 23 at 4 pm in the august presence of Janardhan Reddy, IAS, Commissioner, Government of Telangana; Papi Reddy, IRTS, Commissioner (I/C), Government of Andhra Pradesh and Rama Lakshmi, IFS, Ex-Commissioner of Sericulture.
