More than Rs.1 lakh cr loss in J&K floods
Jammu and Kashmir government said the preliminary assessment of cumulative losses due to floods in the state was in excess of Rs 1,00,000 crore and expressed hope that the Centre will go out of its way to provide succour to the affected people.

"The losses due to floods including the (private) businesses is in excess of Rs one lakh crore," state Chief Secretary Mohammad Iqbal Khandey told reporters here.
The Chief Secretary said the state government was in the process of preparing a detailed memorandum of losses due to floods which shall be submitted to the Centre by this weekend. CM Omar Abdullah expressed hope that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will go beyond norms for the sake of rehabilitating flood affected people of the state.
"I am hopeful that Prime Minister of India will go beyond norms in supporting the rehabilitation of flood affected Jammu and Kashmir," Omar said at a meeting with State Economic Reconstruction Forum (SERF), an amalgam of trade bodies, here.
He said Modi mentioned the devastating floods in Jammu and Kashmir in his address at the United Nations General Assembly.
He said a comprehensive proposal for rehabilitation of the flood affected including compensation to the agriculturists, horticulturists, industrialists, traders, hoteliers, houseboat owners and others who suffered losses in the devastating flood, is being referred to the Centre for approval and early release of funds under the 'Special Rehabilitation Package'.
The Chief Minister said the state government has constituted a coordination committee under Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir, to coordinate the efforts of providing relief to the affected families and cater to the needs of families residing in relief camps.

Anantnag: Visiting Jammu and Kashmir for the first time since it was struck by devastating floods, Congress president Sonia Gandhi and vice president Rahul Gandhi said their party is with the people of the state and assured all help to mitigate their suffering. "Congress party is with you. We will take up your issues with the Government and help you in whichever way we can," Rahul said .
"Our organisation, including Congress party, Youth and Women Congress, NSUI, RGF and local leaders have been working here since the floods hit. It is a time of grief and we came here to see for ourselves (the destruction caused by floods). We will visit other places as well," Rahul said.
